CAIRO, December 17. /TASS/. Around 300 people have been killed in Israel’s raids in the West Bank since early October, when the situation in zone of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict escalated dramatically, Palestine’s health ministry said.
"Since the beginning of the current year, as many as 505 people have been killed in the West Bank, including 297 since October 7," it said.
According to the ministry, a total of 111 of those killed are children and teenagers, seventy of them have been killed or died of wounds since early October.
The Palestinian health ministry said on Saturday that the death toll from the escalation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank exceeded 19,000. Around 70% of them are children and teenagers. It also said that only 11 hospitals are currently partially operating.
Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 after militants from the Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise incursion on Israeli territory, killing many Israeli kibbutz residents living near the Gaza border and abducting more than 200 Israelis, including women, children and the elderly. Hamas described its attack as a response to Israeli authorities’ aggressive actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. Israel declared a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and launched bombardments of the enclave and some areas in Lebanon and Syria, as well as a ground operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Clashes are also reported in the West Bank.
