Georgia well on its way to EU accession — prime minister

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said earlier on Wednesday that the organization recommends the EU Council grant Georgia candidate status

TBILISI, November 8. /TASS/. Georgia is well on its way toward becoming a full-fledged member of the EU after the European Commission recommended granting the republic the status of a candidate, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said.

"The EU Commission has released a positive assessment & recommended Georgia for well-deserved EU Candidate Status. We're grateful for the support & excited to continue our journey towards full-fledged EU membership," Garibashvili said on his X page (formerly Twitter).

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili also wrote on her page that she will continue her "role as a pro European leader to facilitate and push the still needed reforms."

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said earlier on Wednesday that the organization recommends the EU Council grant Georgia candidate status. The EC welcomed the reforms carried out in Georgia but said that the country still had some work to do.
