Lavrov says little hope for national investigation into Nord Stream blasts

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the Nord Stream incident added to the energy crisis in Europe, noting that the Russian side should be provided with an opportunity to be represented in the investigation into the act of sabotage

ANKARA, April 7. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov believes there is little hope for a national investigation into Nord Stream blasts.

"Honestly speaking, I have little hope that those involved in the national investigation [into Nord Stream blasts] will rise to the challenge to overcome the order by the ‘big brother’ (US - TASS) and make public what they discovered there," Lavrov said at a press conference following the talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on Friday.

In turn, Turkish Foreign Minister said that the Nord Stream incident added to the energy crisis in Europe, noting that the Russian side should be provided with an opportunity to be represented in the investigation into the act of sabotage.

"The Nord Stream sabotage has added to the energy crisis in Europe. Turkey favors an open and transparent investigation into blasts at pipelines. The investigation into the incident should be thorough and independent, while Russia should be provided with an opportunity to be represented in this work," he said.

On September 27 last year, Nord Stream AG reported unprecedented damage that occurred the day before on three strings of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 offshore gas pipelines. On September 26, Swedish seismologists registered two explosions on pipeline routes. Russia’s Prosecutor General's Office launched criminal proceedings over an act of international terrorism.
