BUDAPEST, April 3. /TASS/. The nuclear talk surrounding Ukraine is extremely dangerous, as it could lead to a nuclear war, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto warned, speaking at the American Chamber of Commerce in Budapest on Monday.

"The risk of military escalation [in Ukraine] is now greater than ever. Openly mentioning nuclear capabilities is simply dangerous," the foreign minister said. He noted that if a conflict with the use of nuclear weapons occurs because of the events in Ukraine, it will happen in Europe, not across the ocean. That is why, Hungary urges the parties to the conflict to cease fire and start peace talks, the top diplomat stressed.

He also noted that although Hungary remains in the minority on this issue in the European Union, most countries in the world are in favor of resolving the Ukrainian conflict solely through diplomatic means. The top diplomat confirmed that Hungary would not supply weapons to Ukraine.

As another argument in favor of an immediate ceasefire, he reiterated that the conflict in Ukraine had triggered sanctions against Russia which were directly affecting Europe. "Europe's competitiveness has been undermined," the foreign minister said. Although the conflict is regional in nature, the entire continent is suffering as a result of it, Szijjarto stressed.

He also warned that the possibility of a new East-West bloc divide would have very negative consequences for all countries. With this in mind, the foreign minister confirmed that Hungary intends to continue to pursue a multidirectional economic policy and develop ties with both the US and China.
