Turkey’s elections agency endorses decision to hold general elections on May 14

ANKARA, March 10. /TASS/. Turkey’s Supreme Election Council on Friday evening endorsed the decision by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to hold general elections in the country on May 14, according to the government newspaper.

The second round of presidential elections, if needed, will take place on May 28, according to the decision.

Supreme Election Council Ahmet Yener earlier announced the decision to reporters.

Erdogan on Friday signed an executive order to call presidential and parliamentary elections on May 14 instead of June 18, when they were originally planned to be held. The Turkish leader said that following the publication of the order in the government newspaper, the process of preparing for the elections will kick off.
