Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Chinese envoy discuss Nord Stream probe — statement

According to the Ministry, "this discussion confirmed the high level of coordination in Russia’s and China’s actions on multilateral platforms, as per usual based on firm bilateral relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation"

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and Chinese Envoy to Russia Zhang Hanhui discussed the Chinese global security initiative and the launch of an international investigation of the Nord Stream gas pipeline sabotage Tuesday.

"During the negotiations, the sides had a substantial review of various aspects of cooperation between our countries within the UN with an emphasis on the importance of maintaining the cooperation on the key issues of the UN agenda, including the reformation of the Security Council, as close as possible. The sides discussed in detail the Beijing’s initiative on global security, which received a positive assessment from the Russian side, as well as the issue of the prompt launch of an international investigation of the September 26, 2022, detonation of the Nord Stream pipeline," the Foreign Ministry said.

On September 27 last year, Nord Stream AG reported "unprecedented damage" that took place on three lines of Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. Swedish seismologists registered two explosions that occurred on September 26 near the pipeline route. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office initiated a criminal case over charges of international terrorism.
