ROME, January 31. /TASS/. Iran is on the list of US enemies, and its destabilization is in the interests of both the United States and its closest partner, Israel, former Italian ambassador to Tehran, Alberto Bradanini, told TASS on Tuesday.

"Iran, along with Russia and China, as well as the DPRK and Venezuela, is on the United States’ list of its enemies. Washington would like to have it destructured, like all other countries in the region - Iraq, Syria, Libya and Yemen. The Middle East is important in terms of natural resources, and also because of the position of Israel, which determines significant aspects in both foreign and domestic US policies," Bradanini said.

In his opinion, the timing of strikes on the territory of Iran is not accidental.

"They simply took advantage of the moment when all attention is riveted to Ukraine under the pretext of drones allegedly transferred Russia. Their plan is to trigger an upsurge in internal protests at a time when everything is not easy inside the country," Bradanini said. Moscow and Tehran have repeatedly refuted allegations of deliveries of Iranian drones to Russia, which the latter was then reportedly using in Ukraine.

He explained that the narrative supported by the Western media was extremely primitive. In particular, "it is alleged that Iran is making a nuclear bomb, but this is not true."

Bradanini finds it puzzling why US President Joe Biden did not immediately return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for the Iranian nuclear program, which was signed in 2015 under Barack Obama, when Biden was vice president and, hence, approved the agreement. "But here, too, US imperial attitudes prevail. They create tensions and conflict situations, and fuel chaos, which contributes to the strengthening of the dollar. Arms sellers supply everyone with expensive military hardware," Bradanini said.

On Sunday, the IRNA news agency reported that a large explosion occurred in the city of Isfahan, located in the central part of Iran, late Saturday. Later, the Defense Ministry said it was an unsuccessful drone attack on one of its centers. One UAV was shot down and the other two were caught in defense traps and exploded. No one was hurt, and only minor material damage was caused. The statement did not specify who, in Tehran’s view, was involved in the attack.
