Russia, Iran must deepen relations to counter US sanctions — Majles Speaker

It is reported that during the meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission, the sides discussed investments to the oil and gas industry, including the swap gas supplies, as well as the implementation of the International North-South Transport Corridor project

TEHRAN, January 23. /TASS/. Countering sanctions, imposed on Russia and Iran by the US, requires deepening of relations and coordination between Moscow and Tehran, Iranian Majles (Parliament) Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said during the meeting with Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin Monday.

"The today’s threat is the brutal sanctions that the US imposed against Russia, Iran and many other countries. These issues requires taking strategic measures on deepening of relations [between Russia and Iran] in all areas, with cooperation and greater coordination, especially between the leaders and officials of the two states," Ghalibaf said, according to IRNA.

According to the Iranian official, during the meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission, the sides discussed investments to the oil and gas industry, including the swap gas supplies, as well as the implementation of the International North-South Transport Corridor project. In addition, the sides touched upon issues connected to transportation and export of grain, customs controls at the border of the two states and banking.

The Russian State Duma Speaker is currently in Iran with an official visit as the head of the State Duma delegation, which arrived on Sunday. Previously, the IRNA news agency reported citing a source in the Iranian Parliament that Volodin will meet with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Monday.
