Tokayev says he’ll make statement on parliamentary elections at end of year

If he wins the presidential election, the leader of Kazakhstan plans to make "point changes in the composition of the government"

ASTANA, November 20. /TASS/. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Sunday said he will make a statement at the end of the year regarding parliamentary elections.

He also said Kazakhstan’s cabinet will continue to work after the presidential elections taking place on Sunday.

"As for the timeline for parliamentary elections, I am going to make a statement at the end of the year, so the cabinet is to continue working," he told reporters.

The president said that, if he wins the vote, he will make some changes in the cabinet and other agencies.

"By law the cabinet doesn’t have to resign following presidential elections. It’s only mandatory after parliamentary elections," Tokayev said.

Six candidates including Tokayev are in the running in Sunday’s elections.
