Midterm congressional elections kick off in the US

Experts predict that the Republicans will increase their representation in both chambers of the US Congress, which will allow them to block the Democratic President’s lawmaking initiatives

NEW YORK, November 8. /TASS/. Voting in the midterm elections in the US Congress kicked off Tuesday morning in the US. The voters will elect the entire House of Representatives, and one third of the Senate; most states will also hold gubernatorial elections. The first polling stations opened at 05:00 a.m. local time in Vermont.

According to NBC, a significant portion of US voters have already cast their ballots during early voting - either by mail or at certain polling stations that provide such an option. Overall, over 42 million people have already voted in the midterm elections, with the majority (45%) supporting the Democrats. US President Joe Biden also voted early on October 29 in Delaware.

Experts predict that the Republicans will increase their representation in both chambers of the US Congress, which will allow them to block the Democratic President’s lawmaking initiatives.

The FiveThirtyEight website predicts that the Republicans have a 53% chance to take control of both chambers of Congress, while the Dems have only a 16% chance to do so; however, they have a 30% chance to retain control of the Senate while losing control over the House.
