Ukrainian spy nabbed in Crimea plotting to blow up power line

A criminal case was opened against the suspect in custody on charges of illegally possessing explosives and an investigation is underway "into his possible involvement in other crimes in Russia"

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) detained a Ukrainian intelligence agent in Crimea, who planned to bomb an electric power line, the FSB press office told TASS on Wednesday.

"The Federal Security Service prevented an act of sabotage, which was devised by the Ukrainian special services at an energy infrastructure facility in the republic of Crimea," the press office reported.

"A Ukrainian national born in 1978 and recruited by the Ukrainian Security Service was taken into custody," the FSB stated, adding that three explosive devices, a manual on how to set them off and a map of an electric power facility in one of the Crimean districts were confiscated.

"According to energy sector experts, if any damage had been caused to the power line, then as many as 5,000 consumers, including the republic’s socially important facilities, would have been cut off from electricity power supplies," the FSB reported.
