ST. PETERSBURG, June 17. /TASS/. Kazakhstan takes into account sanctions imposed on Russia in its trade and economic strategy, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Friday at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"As for Kazakhstan, I would not say that [sanctions] put direct pressure on our country," he said. "Sanctions exist, we take these sanctions into account, of course we take them into account in our trade and economic strategy. But at the same time, there obligations to Kazakhstan related to our previous agreements with the Russian Federation. Moreover, geography itself, not to mention history, implies that we must be together and work together in very specific, I would say, conditions," Tokayev said.

He also noted that "the EAEU, despite all the difficulties, has a future", and the of this union "together represent a significant economic force and potential."

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum organized by the Roscongress Foundation is running from June 15 to 18. This year’s forum is dubbed: ‘New Opportunities in a New World’.
