Erdogan says West’s policies can’t be trusted

Their words are full of lies, Turkish President said

ANKARA, June 12. /TASS/. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday said Western countries can’t be trusted, according to a video of his meeting with Turkish youth that was released by the presidential office.

"When we ask them (Greece - TASS) why you are creating these (US - TASS nte) bases, they answer: ‘Against Russia,’" the president said. "And what have you done for Ukraine against Russia? Their words are full of lies. The West cannot be trusted, especially when it comes to their politics."

He conceded that Turkey could interact with Western countries in the fields of science and culture. "But the policies of the West cannot be trusted. To this day they are waffling about us and the EU (on the issue of Turkey's accession - TASS)," he said.

On June 8, Erdogan expressed doubt that the US military bases deployed in Greece were directed against Russia.

Turkey and Greece, members of NATO, have repeatedly found themselves on the verge of military conflict over disputed islands in the Aegean Sea, the boundaries of territorial waters and airspace.

The Greek prime minister said on May 25 at the World Economic Forum in Davos that he would keep raising the issue of violations of its airspace by Turkish aviation until Turkey stopped doing so. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu the next day accused Greece of breaking commitments regarding the demilitarization of islands in the Aegean Sea, threatening retaliatory measures.
