Calling it quits after 20 years: Apple pulls the plug on iPods

The tech giant stated that the remaining iPods in stock would still be available for purchase via official on-line web stores or directly at Apple retail stores

NEW YORK, May 11. /TASS/. Apple, the Silicon Valley-based tech behemoth, has announced that it decided to pull the plug on the further production of iPods, which were rolled out at the dawn of 2000s, the company said in its statement.

"Since its introduction over 20 years ago, iPod has captivated users all over the world who love the ability to take their music with them on the go," the statement reads. "Today, the experience of taking one’s music library out into the world has been integrated across Apple’s product line."

The company quoted in its statement Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing as saying that: "Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry — it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared."

"Today, the spirit of iPod lives on. We’ve integrated an incredible music experience across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV," Joswiak added.

The tech giant also stated that the remaining iPods in stock would still be available for purchase via official on-line web stores or directly at Apple retail stores.

According to earlier reports, Apple’s income in the first quarter of this year surged by nine percent against the same period in 2021 and totaled some $97.3 billion (against some $90 billion in 2021).
