CHISINAU, May 6. /TASS/. Transnistria remains neutral to the conflict in Ukraine, so an attack from the unrecognized republic is not possible, Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky said at a meeting with local editors-in-chief on Friday.
"An attack on Ukraine from Transnistria is impossible. Even those who talk about it in Kiev realize this. Their statements are meant for domestic consumption," Krasnoselsky said.
"We stand for neutrality in this thorny situation. Our people are peace loving. We have gone through a war and we see the goal of maintaining peace in our land as the most crucial," the president of the unrecognized republic said.
"What is going on between Russia and Ukraine is a tragedy for me personally, like for any normal person," he said adding that "the roots of the tragedy in the neighboring country should be looked for in the distant past."
Last week, a series of terrorist attacks rocked Transnistria. Krasnoselsky said that their traces were leading to Ukrainian territory, and issued a decree declaring the highest terrorist threat level. Alexey Arestovich, an adviser to the Ukrainian president, had previously said that the Ukrainian army could seize Transnistria if Chisinau asked for it.
