BRUSSELS, April 29. /TASS/. The European Union expressed support for the territorial integrity of Moldova and urged all sides to avoid destabilization in unrecognized Transnistria, according to the Friday statement by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
"The reported incidents in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova that have taken place over the last days are detrimental to the security and stability of the Republic of Moldova. The European Union calls on the responsible actors to avoid the destabilisation of the situation," Borrell said. "The EU stands in solidarity with Moldova and reiterates its unwavering support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognised borders and with a special status for the Transnistrian region," the statement noted.
Borrell also welcomed "the restrained reactions from the authorities of the Republic of Moldova" to the incidents. He reiterated that the EU assists Moldova due to the inflow of refugees from Ukraine and "stepped up its medium-term support to strengthen Moldova’s overall resilience."
This week, several terror attacks were committed in Transnistria. Leader of the unrecognized Transnistria Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky said that they were organized in Ukraine. The authorities declared the highest level of terror threat and bolstered security measures. Moldova’s President Maia Sandu held some internal forces in Transnistria responsible for explosions at military and infrastructure facilities.
