Ukrainian shelling of liberated area of Mariupol leaves 12 civilians wounded

Apart from that, one civilian was wounded in the city of Yasinovataya

DONETSK, March 27. /TASS/. Twelve civilians were wounded in the liberated part of the city of Mariupol as a result of shelling by Ukrainian troops, the mission of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) to the Joint Control and Coordination Center said on Sunday.

"As a result of shelling by Ukrainian troops of the liberated part of Mariupol, eleven civilians were wounded," it wrote on its Telegram channel. According to the DPR’s mission, information about one more wounded person in Mariupol and being verified.

Apart from that, one civilian was wounded in the city of Yasinovataya.

The DPR’s interior ministry said earlier that the operation to liberate Mariupol is to be completed soon. DPR police stations have started to operate in the liberated parts of the city.

Following a dramatic deterioration of the situation in Donbass on February 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 21 announced a decision to recognize the sovereignty of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics within the boundaries of the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, as is committed to paper in their constitutions. The treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual aid were signed with their leaders. On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country. The republics began an operation to liberate their territories controlled by Kiev.
