ROME, March 4. /TASS/. Italy’s Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio on Friday said a hot line had been established with Russia for evacuation of civilians from Ukraine, the ANSA news agency reports. He was speaking after an urgent meeting of NATO’s foreign ministers over Ukraine.
Also, he opposed the idea of a no-fly zone over Ukraine, because it would be tantamount to NATO’s direct involvement and trigger a conflict entailing disastrous effects for the whole of Europe.
Russian President Vladimir Putin last week said that in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics he had ordered a special military operation. The Russian leader said that Moscow had no plans for an occupation of Ukrainian territories. After that the United States, the European Union, Britain and a number of other countries said they were imposing sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities.
