Ovechkin repeats NHL record for number of goals scored in one season by player of his age

He is now second in NHL history with 892 goals

WASHINGTON, April 3. /TASS/. Russian superstar forward and Washington Capitals’ captain Alexander Ovechkin repeated the National Hockey League (NHL) record for the number of goals scored in one season by a player aged 39.

With one more goal in an NHL game against Carolina Hurricanes, Ovechkin scored 39 goals this season in total. This repeats the record of Canada’s Gordie Howe, set during the 1967/68 season.

He is now second in NHL history with 892 goals, trailing only the Great One himself Wayne Gretzky of Canada, who had 894 goals in his NHL career. This is Washington’s 75th game out of 82 in the current championship.
