No hints of Russian teams’ early access to international events — RFU honorary president

"The upcoming UEFA congress, scheduled to be held in Belgrade on April 3, may have implications for Russian football," Vyacheslav Koloskov stated

MOSCOW, March 3. /TASS/. Vyacheslav Koloskov, the honorary president of the Russian Football Union (RFU), sees no signs of Russian teams returning to international tournaments in the near future.

Earlier, Valery Karpin, the head coach of the Russian national team, remarked in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel that the prospect of returning to global competitions seemed slightly closer.

"The upcoming UEFA congress, scheduled to be held in Belgrade on April 3, may have implications for Russian football," Koloskov stated. "There may be some discussions on this topic, but it is clear that it will not be officially addressed. The focus will be on the election of the executive committee and other related matters. We have not heard any statements from UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin or FIFA President Gianni Infantino indicating any shifts regarding the participation of Russian teams in competitions. At present, I do not sense that the return of Russian football teams to international tournaments is imminent. There are no signs of change."

In February 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian clubs and national teams from participating in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.
