MOSCOW, September 19. /TASS /. Russia’s Oscar committee has nominated "Paradise," the latest film by Andrei Konchalovsky, for the best-foreign language Oscar, a representative with the committee told TASS on Monday.
When he learnt the news the filmmaker thanked the Russian Oscar committee for their choice.
"Well, I don’t know... I would like to thank my colleagues. I did not follow all this. But that’s good so I should agree with it," Konchalovsky said.
The film was first screened on September 8, 2016, at the 73 Venice Film Festival where it later won the Silver Lion (Leone d'Argento) award for best direction.
'Paradise' that was an entry in the competitive section reveals the tangling of human life stories during World War II. Konchalovsky's wife, actress Yuliya Vysotskaya, plays the leading part of the Russian emigre Olga who finds herself ending up in a concentration camp after she gave shelter to Jewish children in Paris.
