MAKHACHKALA, April 24. /TASS/. The Russian Investigative Committee said law enforcement officers in the Republic of Dagestan detained four members of a terrorist group on suspicion they were conspiring to attack a police precinct.

The committee opened an investigation on charges of setting up and running a terrorist group, preparing for illegal manufacture of explosives and conspiring to commit a terrorist attack, based on data from the Russian Federal Security Service and Interior Ministry, it said in a statement.

According to the agency, law enforcement officers conducted an operation on April 22, killing one member of the terrorist group as he put up armed resistance, and detaining four others.

Investigators believe that the five people teamed up to attack and blow up a police precinct in the city of Derbent, the statement said. To achieve their goal, they purchased components to make explosives and improvised explosive devices, according to the agency.

Investigators have motioned for a court to order the suspects to be taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
