Attackers of Russian Consulate in Marseille sentenced to 8 months in prison — news agency

The prosecutor's office specified that the convicts will also be banned from possessing weapons for five years

PARIS, February 27. /TASS/. Two men who threw incendiary devices on the premises of the Russian Consulate General in Marseille have been sentenced to eight months of prison each, they will serve their sentences at home, Reuters reported.

According to the news agency, the French citizens "were sentenced by a French court to eight months in prison to be served at home with ankle bracelet monitoring."

The prosecutor's office specified that the convicts will also be banned from possessing weapons for five years.

On February 27, a hearing was held in Marseille for the two accused in the attack on the Consulate General. The defendants were charged with causing damage to property in a generally dangerous manner and with illegally making an explosive device.

On February 25, the Russian Consulate General in Marseille informed TASS that the day before, unknown individuals threw three objects on the premises of the diplomatic mission, two of which exploded. No casualties or material damage were reported in the incident. Strong security measures in place at the mission prevented harm from being done.

The Marseille prosecutor's office confirmed to TASS that the suspects had been taken into custody. They are French citizens. One of them was born in 1965, the other in 1977.
