Positive results of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic consist in accelerated development of a number of scientific technologies and in growth of medical awareness of the population, Professor of the School of Systems Biology of the George Mason University Ancha Baranova told TASS in an interview.
"Everybody knows about adverse consequences of the coronavirus pandemic but it also had positive results. They consist in the release of several technologies unable to make their way to the market earlier. One of them is the mRNA technology. The second one is the adenovirus vaccine technology. It was tested for a long time before and is now released together with AstraZeneca and Sputnik V medicines. The third one is the technology of working on large quantities of fused proteins in insect cells, which was used earlier also but not at such scales as Novavax launched it", she said.
"Medical awareness of the population increased" seriously in connection with the pandemic, the professor added. "There was observed a giant spike in the interest of the people in scientific information," Baranova said.
