Five police officers injured in Lugansk after suspect triggers explosive device

The officers received shrapnel wounds and blast injuries, while the perpetrator, whose identity is currently being established, was killed

LUGANSK, March 21./TASS/. Five officers of the Russian Interior Ministry were injured in Lugansk while trying to detain a suspect who detonated an explosive device, the press service of the Russian Investigative Committee’s department for the Lugansk People’s Republic said.

A criminal case has been opened, the press service added. It said the incident occurred on the night of March 20, when police officers were pursuing the man. At a traffic light in Lugansk, "they pulled the man out of the taxi he was riding in. At that instant, the malefactor detonated an explosive device. Five police officers received shrapnel wounds and blast injuries, while the man, whose identity is currently being established, was killed. The driver of the vehicle was unharmed," the press service said.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer).
