Almost 50% of Poles disgruntled about Warsaw’s farm policy — newspaper

Poll participants attributed the Tusk government’s main failures to the pace of implementation of promises made by the united opposition to Polish citizens

MOSCOW, March 21. /TASS/. Almost half of Polish citizens describe as a "defeat" the policy of Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government regarding Polish farmers’ demands that Warsaw stop imports of Ukrainian food into the country and cancel the EU's "Green Course" program, according to a United Surveys research center poll commissioned by the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna newspaper.

This viewpoint was expressed by 47% of respondents, while 32% disagreed and 21% of respondents found it difficult to answer the question.

Poll participants attributed the Tusk government’s main failures to the pace of implementation of promises made by the united opposition to Polish citizens on the eve of the October 15, 2023 parliamentary elections. Altogether, 52.2% of respondents considered them a "defeat" for the Tusk cabinet, while only 28.3% of respondents expressed the opposite opinion.

The government’s main successes were the unblocking of EU funds for Poland in the amount of almost 600 bln zlotys (about $150 bln), as stated by 61.3%, as well as the implementation of foreign policy, which was considered "successful" by 50.7%.

The poll was conducted on March 8-10 to mark the Tusk cabinet’s first 100 days in power. In total, 1,000 adult citizens were interviewed in all voivodeships (regions) of the country.

On February 9, Polish farmers began staging large-scale protests and a blockade of border crossings on the border with Ukraine. They have been demanding limitations or a complete ban on the import of cheap agricultural products from Ukraine and greater support for domestic livestock production, and also expressing disagreement with the EU's Green Deal strategy, which calls for achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050.
