MOSCOW, January 9. /TASS/. Roskomnadzor, Russia’s communications watchdog, has recorded 168 leaks of personal data in 2023, with more than 300 million records containing data about Russians being leaked on the web, the agency’s press service told TASS.
"In 2023, Roskomnadzor recorded 168 leaks of personal data, as a result of which more than 300 million records went into the public domain," it said.
In total, according to the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media, last year the courts looked into 87 reports drawn up by the agency over personal data leaks and imposed fines totaling more than 4.6 million rubles (about $51,382).
In June 2023, Roskomnadzor’s deputy chief Milos Wagner told TASS that since the beginning of the year there had been more than 70 personal data leaks, with about 200 million records about Russians finding their way onto the web.
Meanwhile, in 2022, after the start of the special military operation, 600 million records about Russians leaked on the web, with the agency reporting over 140 leaks.
