Hainan’s city of Sanya holds Lunar New Year's Eve celebrations

The Lunar New Year falls on the night of January 21-22 this year and will last until February 10, 2024

SANYA /China/, January 20. /TASS/. Sanya's (Hainan province, South China) tourist attractions hold themed events for visitors on the eve of the Lunar New Year (which falls on the night of January 22 this year). This was reported by the Sanya Daily newspaper.

Last week, Luhuitou Park (translated from Chinese as "the deer that turns its head") held an event devoted to the upcoming year of the Water Rabbit, the newspaper wrote. The program included traditional New Year's entertainments such as drumming, lion and dragon dancing and Chinese opera. In addition to performances of artists, the park was organized contests for children, unfolded thematic exhibitions, markets and fairs.

The article notes that last week the International Duty Free Center in Sanya also held events dedicated to the New Year. A concert featuring local pop bands was held on the territory of the mall.

The the Lunar New Year, or the Festival of Spring (Chunjie), will fall on the night of January 21 to 22 and will last until February 10, 2024. Its symbol is the Water Rabbit, whose main colors are black and blue. For residents of China, Chunjie is one of the most important holidays celebrated according to the lunar calendar. It is a traditional time for tourist trips and visits to native places.
