Gnesin Russian Academy of Music showcases student programs in Rome, offers scholarships

ROME, January 17. /TASS/. The famed Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, the country’s biggest musical education establishment, has showcased its programs of international cooperation and student exchanges at an event in Rome on Monday.

As part of the event, it was offering government scholarships to Italians.

Galina Mayarovskaya, the academy’s president, said the academy regularly pitches its programs to the international audience, including recent presentations in Serbia, Hungary and France.

"We have about 40 agreements with other musical education establishments across Europe and these connections still hold. No one is giving them up," she said.

The academy’s partner in Italy is the Parma Music Conservatory, Mayarovskaya said.

Further travel plans include Bahrain in March and Azerbaijan in May.

The institution has representatives of 31 foreign countries among its 3,000 students, according to the academy’s principal Alexander Ryzhinsky.

At the event in Rome, the academy’s alumni performed the works of renowned Russian composers, such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Alexander Skryabin and Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The program focused on Rachmaninoff as the 150th anniversary of his birth will be celebrated later this year.
