MOSCOW, November 12. /TASS/. Milan’s La Scala opera house will open its new season in December with Boris Godunov, an opera by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky.

The opera’s presentation took place on Friday, the day after Ukrainian Consul General in Milano Andrey Kartysh urged to cancel it.

According to the theater’s statement published on Friday, the main part will be performed by Russian opera singer Ildar Abdrazakov and the opera will feature several other performers from the Mariinsky Theater.

On June 6, Dominique Meyer, La Scala’s CEO, announced the choice of Boris Godunov for the season’s opening which traditionally takes place on December 7. Meyer stressed that he was against canceling performances of Russian operas.
