Russia produces 6.5 mln doses of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine

According to the health minister's data, six sites are engaged in production

MOSCOW, January 20. /TASS/. Russia has already produced about 6.5 mln two-component doses of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, the country’s Health Minister Mikhail Murashko announced during the session in the Federation Council.

"About 6.5 mln two-component vaccine doses have been produced on a cumulative total," the health minister stated.

According to the data, six sites are engaged in production. In January, 2.1 mln vaccine doses are ready to be sent to the regions.

In February, Russia’s regions are expected to receive over 5 mln doses of COVID-19 vaccine. "Some 5.17 mln vaccine doses are going to be delivered to the regions in February," the official said. Regarding the statistics, almost 2,200 Russia’s medical organizations are taking part in mass vaccination against coronavirus.

Vaccination in Russia

On January 18, Russia launched a mass vaccination against the coronavirus available for everyone. The country’s residents can receive one of the two registered vaccines Sputnik V or EpiVacCorona for free.

On August 11, Russia was the first in the world to register a coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Healthcare Ministry. Sputnik V is a vector vaccine based on human adenovirus.
