MOSCOW, September 4. /TASS/. Russia’s Justice Ministry has included the democracy support fund Golos in the list of non-governmental organizations registered as foreign agents.
"An unscheduled on-site inspection by the Justice Ministry’s Moscow division found that the organization falls under the definition of a non-commercial organization performing the functions of a foreign agent," the Justice Ministry said.
Golos has become the 91st organization on the foreign agents’ list.
The foreign agents act was adopted in the summer of 2012. It obliges all organizations involved in politics and funded from outside the country to declare themselves as "foreign agents" and have themselves included in a special register. They must mention their status in publishing any material in the Internet and the mass media.
For the first two years declaration was voluntary. In 2014 the Justice Ministry was empowered to include organizations in the list of foreign agents at its own discretion.
