MOSCOW, February 13. /TASS/. Russians began to pay more attention to Valentine's Day. According to a survey conducted by the Mir payment system, this year, almost half of the respondents voiced plans to congratulate their other half on Valentine’s Day.

"This year, longing for romance amid the pandemic, Russians feel like celebrating Valentine's Day again - 48% plan to congratulate their other half - this is 4 percentage points more than last year," according to the results of the survey obtained by TASS.

Moreover, both young and older people showed interest in celebration of romance.

"If earlier we observed that February 14 was, rather, a youth holiday, now older people are also planning to congratulate their beloved ones - namely 31% of people over 45 and 13% of people over 60," head of the marketing research and analytics department of the Mir payment system Irina Lobanova said.

According to the survey, about 40% of respondents are going to spend 1,000-3,000 rubles ($13-40) on gifts to their beloved ones. Another 8% (2 pp more than a year earlier) of the respondents said they plan to spend more than 5,000 rubles ($68) on gifts. At the same time, every tenth Russian does not plan to spend money to buy a gift at all.

The survey was conducted among 1,200 people over 18 years old.
