Russian foreign minister outlines what Moscow expects from next UN secretary-general

Both sides "reaffirmed their commitment to the central coordinating role of the UN in world affairs"

MOSCOW, July 3. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov outlined Moscow's pre-requisites for whoever serves as the next UN Secretary-General during a meeting with former foreign minister of Guyana Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, who is running for the post, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement following their conversation.

"Rodrigues-Birkett presented her campaign platform. Sergey Lavrov explained what the Russian side requires from contenders for the UN's top job," the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.

Both sides "reaffirmed their commitment to the central coordinating role of the UN in world affairs."
