SpaceX to take part in deployment of 120 Ukrainian satellites by 2027 — Russian expert

According to the source, the plan is to provide the military with 30,000-50,000 terminals

MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. Ukraine’s STETMAN plans to create a constellation of 120 UASAT-NANO satellites for the Ukrainian armed forces by 2027. SpaceX will be involved in the launches, a source in Russia’s security agencies told TASS.

"The Ukrainian company STETMAN will create a constellation of UASAT-NANO satellites for the Ukrainian armed forces. In 2027, they plan to deploy 120 satellites, with the possibility of increasing their number annually. SpaceX will take part in the launches. In the first year of operation, they plan to provide the military with 30,000-50,000 terminals," the security official noted.

When the conflict ends, it is planned to gradually localize the production, which is now handled by the Danish company GomSpace, in Ukraine.

The source added that Elon Musk's SpaceX is apparently implementing this project using funds from European taxpayers, creating its own satellite constellation for the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces, whose operation will be supported by both American and European specialists.

"Naturally, the funding sources and scale of this program are currently unknown. However, the possibility of SpaceX’s ‘Ukrainian segment’ being fully funded by European taxpayers cannot be ruled out," he concluded.
