MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. Russia has never shied away from holding talks with Ukraine and is ready to continue contacts on this track, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
The diplomat recalled the May 19 telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump.
"The Russian side reiterated its willingness to achieve a lasting and fair settlement of the crisis. In this regard, Moscow proposes that Kiev work on a memorandum for a future peace treaty. In settling the conflict, it is important to realize that this goal cannot be achieved without eliminating the root causes of the conflict. The main details must be coordinated, the settlement principles formulated, and the dates for concluding the peace treaty and enshrining a potential ceasefire must be set, should agreements be reached," she pointed out.
"As the Russian side has previously reported, Moscow has never shied away from talks and is ready to continue contacts with the Ukrainian side toward this end," the diplomat emphasized.
"This approach was met with full understanding by US President Donald Trump," Zakharova noted.
