West increases pressure on Moscow in legal field — Russian intel agency

Ivan Smyslov, an official with the Department of Legal Support, pointed out that legal aggression was designed to be an element of a campaign of comprehensive hybrid suppression of Russia

ST. PETERSBURG, May 20. /TASS/. Western countries are intensifying legal pressure on Moscow, using all means and methods, including the most questionable ones, Ivan Smyslov, an official with the Department of Legal Support at the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), said at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPILF).

"I don’t doubt for a moment that once again, we will win the hybrid war that the West has unleashed against us, particularly in the legal field. Simply because law is on our side, and the truth is on our side, too. Simply because we are backed by the majority," he pointed out, addressing a session titled "The West’s Legal Aggression Against Russia: Pressing Challenges and Ways of Counteraction." "Everyone understands that the era of the West’s dominance is coming to an end; this is inevitable," Smyslov stressed.

"In order to postpone history’s sentence, our opponents are using all possible capabilities and employing all means and methods, including controversial and the most dubious methods. As for the topic of today’s session, I would like to note that incoming reports point to an increasing legal pressure from the West," he noted.

Smyslov pointed out that legal aggression was designed to be an element of a campaign of comprehensive hybrid suppression of Russia, where law was being used in a bid to make it all seem legal.
