MOSCOW, April 24. /TASS/. China supports the need to address the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and advocates for achieving long-term peace, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu said in an interview with TASS.
"In contrast to the West’s aggressive rhetoric, Beijing calls for ending the escalation and launching efforts to find solutions aimed at securing long-term and sustainable peace. We especially appreciate the fact that China emphasizes the need to address the root causes of the conflict," he pointed out.
"We certainly value and are grateful to our Chinese friends for their efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian conflict. China is a responsible member of the international community, which makes independent decisions," Shoigu added.
A joint statement was released following a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Brazilian Presidential Aide Celso Amorim in May 2024, stating that the only way to resolve the conflict in Ukraine lies through dialogue and negotiations.
China and Brazil called for organizing an international conference "at an appropriate time," ensuring "equal participation of all parties and discussing all peace plans." Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov noted that Russia welcomed the two countries’ peace initiative.
