MOSCOW, March 7. /TASS/. The commission for Russia’s participation in the Group of Twenty, which is led by deputy chief of the Kremlin’s expert directorate and Russia’s G20 Sherpa, has discussed Moscow’s work in the association and preparations for an upcoming summit in Johannesburg, the Kremlin said.
"The commission members discussed the priorities and the plan of work of the South African presidency in the Group of Twenty and further steps to coordinate Russia’s approaches in the negotiating process, including on cross-sectoral issues on fostering economic growth, food security, and artificial intelligence," it said.
South Africa has been holding G20 presidency since February 2025. Moscow supports Pretoria’s intention to consolidate the Group of Twenty as a key international economic cooperation forum. The Kremlin also shares South Africa’s plans to look for practical solutions to cope with global challenges and elaborate efficient cooperation mechanisms.
"It was noted that Russia’s priorities coincide considerably with South Africa’s plan of work with a focus on development funding, reducing inequality, ensuring fair energy transition, and lowering developing countries’ debts, and South Africa’s ideas of excluding the influence of geopolitical issues on the G20 economic agenda," the Kremlin said.
Participants outlined further steps toward coordinating Russia’s work within G20 ahead of the upcoming summit due to be held in Johannesburg on November 22 and 23, 2025.
