HAVANA, November 8. /TASS/. Russia will send Cuba 80,000 tons of diesel fuel and equipment worth a total of $62 mln as aid in connection with the energy crisis, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said at a meeting of the co-chairs of the Russian-Cuban intergovernmental commission on cooperation.
"On the instructions of our President Vladimir Putin, Russia is now ready to provide brotherly Cuba with emergency aid in connection with the current situation in the island's energy sector. It includes about 80,000 tons of diesel fuel worth $60 mln," he said.
Chernyshenko added that Russia will send repair kits for damaged power equipment. "In addition, on the instructions of the president, we are providing assistance in the amount of $2 mln for the supply of urgently needed equipment, which we are preparing to deliver through the Ministry of Emergency Situations. These are repair kits for your power system," he added.
Cuban authorities are currently working to restore communications damaged by the hurricane that hit the west of the island on November 6. Strong winds again knocked out the national power grid on Wednesday. Departmental social networks reported that power had been restored in the eastern part of the country. There is still no power in the west of the country, including Havana.
