Russia in touch with Armenia to clarify Pashinyan's words about CSTO — Kremlin spokesman

Dmitry Peskov specified that Russia "has not yet developed" an understanding of Armenia's position

MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. Moscow continues communication with Yerevan in order to clarify Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statements about "freezing" the country’s membership of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has told a news briefing.

Russia "has not yet developed" an understanding of Armenia's position, the Kremlin spokesman said. "If we proceed from the text of the relevant documents, such a regime simply does not exist de jure," Peskov pointed out.

"We have quite frequent contacts with our Armenian partners. Of course, we will seek clarity on this matter," he added. "We will continue to communicate to find out what this is all about."

Earlier, Pashinyan said that Armenia had suspended its participation in the CSTO. At the same time, the organization's Secretariat said that it had not received any such statements from Armenia on that score yet. Yerevan has recently skipped some international meetings. In particular, Pashinyan was absent from the CSTO summit in Minsk.
