Russian diplomat sees NATO using hacking attacks against undesired regimes

Irina Tyazhlova called on NATO countries to stop portraying Ukraine as a victim of aggression in the information space

UNITED NATIONS, December 12. /TASS/. NATO countries practice attacking unwelcome regimes as they provide hackers with instructions on how to carry out computer attacks, a Russian diplomat, Irina Tyazhlova, said on Monday.

"It is your [NATO’s - TASS] governments that develop doctrinal documents justifying the offensive use of ICTs, practice scenarios of attacks against `undesirable’ regimes, provide perpetrators with detailed instructions for computer attacks, and carry out or encourage electronic surveillance and interception of citizens’ data around the world in violation of their national and international legislation," Tyazhlova emphasized, addressing a meeting of the UN Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) on security of and in the use of information and telecommunication technologies (ICTs). This, she insisted, was being done, despite fake statements about the commitment to non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, protection of democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The Russian diplomat called on NATO countries to stop portraying Ukraine as a victim of aggression in the information space. "We are well aware of their support to the [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky regime for carrying out computer attacks on the critical infrastructure of Russia. These are not groundless accusations - our competent agencies take record of all such cases," Tyazhlova maintained. "Moreover, the Ukrainian authorities themselves acknowledge the acts of sabotage committed by their country with the use of ICTs," she concluded.
