Delegation of Russian lawmakers led by Duma speaker arrives in China

According to the State Duma, during the visit bilateral meetings with top Chinese legislators and other Chinese officials will be held

BEIJING, November 21. /TASS/. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has arrived in China on an official visit with a delegation of Russian lawmakers, according to a TASS reporter.

The special flight carrying Russian parliamentarians landed at a Beijing airport. Among other officials, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov and Peng Qinghua, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (China’s supreme legislature), met them at the airport.

According to the State Duma, during the visit that will last till November 23 bilateral meetings with top Chinese legislators and other Chinese officials will be held. Russia and China are expected to discuss developing the cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments as well as boosting bilateral ties in the economy, security, trade, education, science and other fields.

The Russian delegation includes First Deputy Duma Speaker Ivan Melnikov, Deputy Speaker Alexander Babakov, Alexey Nechayev, who heads the New People faction, Leonid Slutsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) and chair of the International Affairs Committee, the head of the State Duma’s Defense Committee, Andrey Kartapolov, and other lawmakers.
