VIENNA, March 11. /TASS/. This year’s first session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was "not bad" for Russia and the entire global community, the Russian envoy wrote on Twitter.

"For Russia and the whole international community this session of the IAEA Board of Governors was not bad. The previous ones were much more questionable," Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said in a Twitter post.

The session ended in the Austrian capital on Friday. For five days, delegates from 35 countries were discussing the most pressing issues on the international agenda. Unsurprisingly, the safety and security of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and Iran’s nuclear program were at the center of the discussions.

The debate on ZNPP ended in almost unanimous support to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi’s initiative to establish a security zone around the facility. A collective statement, submitted to the IAEA Board of Governors by 50 national delegations and insisting on Russia accountability for alleged disregard to nuclear safety principles, failed to win widespread support during the session.

On the last day of the session, the IAEA Board of Governors re-elected the organization’s Director General Rafael Grossi for another five-year term, until December 2, 2027.
