MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. Russia has expressed its full support for the Iraqi government's efforts to ensure security and fight terrorism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday following talks with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein.
"We expressed our full support for the efforts made by the government headed by [Iraqi] Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to improve the situation, to normalize relations between Baghdad and Erbil, to ensure security and fight terrorism," he said.
The Russian top diplomat arrived on a working visit to the Iraqi capital on Sunday. Lavrov is also meeting Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Mohammed al-Halbousi, chairman of Iraq's Council of Representatives. In addition, Lavrov is scheduled to meet with former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
