MOSCOW, January 27. /TASS/. Russia is hoping that new US Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy won’t repeat the mistakes made by one of her predecessors at the post, Michael McFaul, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday.
"The US ambassador, given the bipartisan Russophobia that’s gone off the charts among the US political elite, practically has no room for maneuver in this regard. We are mindful of this as well. Of course, we are hoping that the current ambassador will learn from the mistakes of one of her predecessors, the now-patented Russophobe McFaul," she said at a news conference. "Meddling in our domestic affairs under the guise of working with civil society instantly turned that character into an outcast. I woudn’t recommend the new ambassador to tread that path of error."
The US embassy in Russia said on Thursday that Tracy had arrived in Moscow.
Tracy, a career diplomat, is the first woman to hold the position of US ambassador to Russia. Most recently, she was US ambassador to Armenia. The diplomat said at hearings at the US Congress in November that she supported Washington’s policy of sanctions against Moscow. She said she would prioritize the freeing of Americans that are held in custody in Russia.
