Maintenance work begins in Energodar to relaunch two Zaporozhye nuke plant power units

It is noted that inspectors of the IAEA working at the Zaporozhye nuke plant will also help relaunch the power units as part of their efforts

MOSCOW, October 7. /TASS/. Maintenance work has begun in Energodar to relaunch two power units at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Head of the local military-civilian administration Alexander Volga said on Friday.

"The station is in working condition and will be able to generate power after the launch. Naturally, we expect this to happen soon as part of preparations… Maintenance work has begun to put some power units into operation," the official said in a live broadcast on the Rossiya-24 TV Channel.

Inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) working at the Zaporozhye nuke plant will also help relaunch the power units as part of their efforts, he said.

"The primary function of the IAEA’s mission is the safe operation of the Zaporozhye NPP. Four inspectors will arrive today on a rotation. Considering that maintenance work has begun to launch some power units, I believe that they will deal with these issues and, as part of their duties, assist with the launch of the Zaporozhye nuclear plant," he added.

The head of the Energodar military-civilian administration told TASS earlier on Friday that power units at the Zaporozhye nuclear plant would be restarted only after maintenance work was over. He said that Russia’s Rosenergoatom and the International Atomic Energy Agency were in charge of this process.

The Zaporozhye NPP is the largest in Europe. It consists of six power units and has a capacity of about 6,000 MW. It used to generate a quarter of all electric power in Ukraine.
