Moscow will accept Macron’s request for contact with Putin on Ukraine, says Lavrov

According to Russian Foreign Minister, Russia hears that all EU leaders are publicly accusing Russia of aggression and are using quite belligerent vocabulary

MOSCOW, May 29. /TASS/. Russia will accept French President Emmanuel Macron’s request for a contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the situation around Ukraine is case it receives such a request, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with France’s TF1 television channel.

When asked whether he expects French President Emmanuel Macron to join efforts to finish "this war" (the situation around Ukraine - TASS), Lavrov said, "I have already said that it doesn’t depend on us." "If Emmanuel Macron asks Vladimir Putin for a contact, I can guarantee: naturally, this request will be accepted," he said.

According to the Russian top diplomat, Russia is not foisting itself on anyone but it hears that all EU leaders are publicly accusing Russia of aggression and are using quite belligerent vocabulary.

"If these words are meant to resolve the problems that have caused the current crisis in the sphere of European security, we will always be ready for a conversation. Emmanuel Macron has long-standing trust-based relations with Vladimir Putin. If he suggests such a contact, this proposal will be accepted," Lavrov stressed.
