Over 260 people killed in DPR as result of Ukrainian troops’ actions in past week

The situation along the contact line in Donbass deteriorated dramatically in the morning of February 17

DONETSK, March 25. /TASS/. More than 260 people were killed and more than 1,100 people were wounded in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) as a result of actions of Ukrainian troops over the past week, the office of the DPR ombudsman said on Friday.

In a period from March 18 to 25, a total of 268 people, including 232 DPR servicemen and 36 civilians, were killed in the republic. As many as 1,101 people - 871 servicemen and 230 civilians were wounded, the office reported on its Telegram channel.

In all, 704 people - 594 servicemen and 110 civilians have been killed in the DPR since the beginning of the year, and 5,742 people, including 96 children, have been killed since the beginning of Kiev’s force operation in Donbass in 2014, the office said.

The situation along the contact line in Donbass deteriorated dramatically in the morning of February 17. The Donetsk and Lugansk People‘s Republics reported the most massive bombardments by the Ukrainian armed forces over the past months. Casualties among civilians and damages to civil infrastructure facilities have been reported. On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country.
