Charitable organizations are working to rescue the children

BANGKOK, March 28. /TASS/. At least 20 children are trapped in a school in the Taungoo city in central Myanmar after the earthquake, The Times reported.

It said charitable organizations are working to rescue the children, according to the Yangon Times, a Myanmar newspaper, which said that the Welu Wan school had been sheltering displaced people.

There were at least 20 children in the school at the time of the disaster.

Various sources put the magnitude of the earthquake from 7.7 to 7.9. It was followed by a second large earthquake, measured at magnitude 6.4. Tremors were felt in China, Thailand and Vietnam. The earthquake brought down a bridge over the Irrawaddy River, and partially destroyed the historic Mandalay Palace.

In Bangkok, the evacuation of residents of multi-story buildings started. At least 60 workers were trapped under the rubble of one of the collapsed buildings. The Prime Minister of Thailand declared a state of emergency in the capital.
